Do you have questions about what hypnotherapy is and how it can help you?
If you've ever seen a stage hypnotist you may have your own ideas about what hypnotherapy is. However hypnotherapy is NOT the same process as stage hypnotism. Hypnotherapy is a safe process of inducing deep relaxation. It is not instant and your therapist cannot make you act like a chicken. You remain in complete control at all times. The feeling can be compared to being totally absorbed while watching television or reading a book, to the point where you don’t notice what else is going on around you. This trance-like state or focused attention is similar to what happens to you during a hypnotherapy session.
When your hypnotherapist works with you, you will achieve an altered state of consciousness, your attention will be more focused, you’ll be more relaxed and your unconscious mind becomes much more open to positive suggestions. Through focusing on areas of improvement within your life, hypnotherapy allows you to change your behaviors, to improve your health and wellbeing and to overcome negative fears and phobias.
Who is Hypnotherapy for?
As hypnotherapy is a method of inducing deep relaxation it can help anyone, including children. What happens during my session?
For face-to-face sessions, you will always see me. After an initial chat over the phone or in a very brief face-to-face session, I will gather some relevant information about you and what you want to change. A treatment plan will then be designed especially to suit your needs. Your typical sessions thereafter will last at least 60 minutes and you may have one or several depending on your requirements. Normally, most clients will have just one session to start with. Afterwards, you will feel relaxed but can continue with your daily activities immediately.Rather than the 'sausage factory' approach that many other practitioners have, I much prefer to spend time with you to build up a better understanding of what your motivations for change and improvement are. This allows me to then create a custom treatment plan tailored especially for you, incorporating NLP, hypnotherapy, EFT and coaching to provide better and more rapid results that are going to last. Audio recordings are also provided of all sessions, allowing you to listen to them again and again to maximise results.
This intensive approach means that I take on only a few customers at a time, working with them to get enduring results. Get in touch with me to talk further about your requirements and if one-to-one sessions will benefit you. It may be that a straightforward audio CD from my store would be better suited to you or else a custom recorded remote session.
For remote sessions, I will arrange an initial chat over the telephone to develop your treatment plan. Tailored sessions will then be delivered to you via audio CD or mp3 with a follow up telephone appointment to review your response. Request a call back to find out if this is a suitable way forward for you.
Some myths about Hypnotherapy
Many myths about hypnotherapy exist, fuelled by a number of high profile television and stage performers as well as a number of questionable 70’s spy films. It doesn’t work like that. Hypnotherapy is a process of deep relaxation that provides greater focus on specific activities and a method for the individual to promote positive changes to their own habits and behaviors. Some general beliefs about hypnosis are:
- When you're under hypnosis, you lose control of reality. This is not correct. At any time you can bring yourself out of a trance. Your hypnotherapist should be aware if you are upset and reassure you at all times.
- The hypnotherapist controls you. This is untrue. Your hypnotherapist will guide you into a trance and make positive suggestions. At no point can your therapist control you.
- Under hypnosis, you lose consciousness. Again this is incorrect. You may go very deep into relaxation and forget some of the things that have been said, but this is intentional as it your unconscious mind that your therapist wants to talk to. Most people recall everything that has occurred under hypnosis.
- You can be put under hypnosis without your consent. This is
totally incorrect. Successful hypnotherapy depends on your ability
and willingness to use your imagination and relax. Without you
consent, you cannot be placed under hypnosis.
